- ➤ In August, aerial surveys spotted an estimated 400 spinner sharks about 10 miles south of Block Island as warming waters pushed the species farther north. Researchers from the RI Department of Environmental Management and the Anderson Cabot Center are studying whether rising temperatures have shifted the sharks' nursery habitat — a finding that could signal changes in local marine life. - ➤ Attorney General Peter Neronha and Prospect Medical Holdings reached an agreement that will allow the hospitals to use $3 million from his fund to remain open in November — any new owner must cover operating costs after November and the deal is subject to bankruptcy court approval. - ➤ A government shutdown caused five flight cancellations at TF Green in Warwick at 6 a.m. Friday, and Boston's Logan recorded 38 cancellations plus 20 delays that morning. - ➤ The Rhode Island DMV tests new drivers on a closed course—rather than using public roads—to ensure they safely learn all the required skills. New drivers under 18 must also complete 50 hours of on-road driving, including 10 hours at night, before they can earn a license. The Providence Journal
- ➤ FAA air traffic cuts led to flight cancellations at T.F. Green where two flights from Washington and three flights to Washington and Baltimore were canceled—Boston’s Logan Airport saw more disruptions.
