- ➤ Last week, Rhode Island communities celebrated Veterans Day and honored local veteran Herve Pelland—who served in the Army and Navy—for his volunteer work with the VNA Hospice Program. - ➤ Erin Giuliano, a second-grade teacher at Park Elementary, was surprised with the Rhode Island STEAM Educator Award Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.—she received $1,000 to use for new classroom tools like robots, iPads, or a makerspace. WJAR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On October 27, a Narragansett Bay Estuary Program workshop brought together state officials, scientists, and local groups to plan dam and culvert removals aimed at boosting river fish runs and improving ecosystem health in the watershed. David Gould from Plymouth’s Department of Energy and Environment said removing barriers increased the herring run from 25,000 to 250,000 fish — a change that may support recreational fishing for years to come.
