COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Last week, Rhode Island communities celebrated Veterans Day and honored local veteran Herve Pelland—who served in the Army and Navy—for his volunteer work with the VNA Hospice Program. Pelland’s service brought comfort to hospice patients and showed that care for fellow service members continued after active duty.  Cranston Herald

  • Durfee Hardware in Rolfe Square changed its shelves as it switched from True Value to Ace Hardware. The family-owned store keeps its old look and adds online ordering from Ace—enhancing choices for customers.  Cranston Herald
  • People’s Liquor Warehouse in Apponaug sold a $34K Wild Money scratch ticket on November 14th, and the RI Lottery has yet to name the winner — the win marks the third on that game this month.  Warwick Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Erin Giuliano, a second-grade teacher at Park Elementary, was surprised with the Rhode Island STEAM Educator Award Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.—she received $1,000 to use for new classroom tools like robots, iPads, or a makerspace.  WJAR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On October 27, a Narragansett Bay Estuary Program workshop brought together state officials, scientists, and local groups to plan dam and culvert removals aimed at boosting river fish runs and improving ecosystem health in the watershed. David Gould from Plymouth’s Department of Energy and Environment said removing barriers increased the herring run from 25,000 to 250,000 fish — a change that may support recreational fishing for years to come.  Warwick Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Cloudflare outage disrupted online access for E-ZPass customers and affected AAA service transactions at the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority. The agency said it will issue an advisory when it establishes a restoration timeline.  ABC 6

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Warwick, Thanksgiving football will feature a rivalry game between Pilgrim and Toll Gate—Pilgrim will carry a five-year win streak with a record of 5 to 2 while Toll Gate, buoyed by a recent 42 to 7 exhibition win, will seek to break the streak.  Warwick Online
