- ➤ Since late May, the Warwick Commission on Historical Cemeteries and friends have restored four historical cemeteries in Warwick by cleaning headstones, clearing debris, and mapping sites (updating family genealogies). - ➤ Two Warwick women—and three local nonprofits—were honored with the Rhode Island Hope Awards at the State House Rotunda on November 13 for their work in housing, mental health, and community support. - ➤ On a cold, rainy Saturday morning before Thanksgiving, over 150 vehicles lined up at Westbay Community Action where nearly 500 families picked up meal kits on Nov 22. - ➤ Mayor Frank Picozzi’s plan for an outdoor skating rink behind City Hall is set to open for free skating during the Apponaug Rolling Strolling Winter Fest on Saturday, Dec. 6—offering a venue for roller skating, food truck events, concerts and pickleball during warmer months. Financed with a $5-million congressional earmark and pandemic funds, the rink features layered ice with projected images and amenities such as fire pits and bleachers—Greenwood Credit Union secured $300,000 naming rights. - ➤ Warwick state legislators signed a letter asking School Budget Commission Chairman Ernest Almonte to follow the rules after the union said the commission overstepped by calling for a performance audit and extra school funds; Mayor Frank Picozzi said the city will pay the shortfall without using its reserves. The union warned that if the City Council does not approve the extra funds this year, it may take legal action—an approach that shows their opposition—while no candidate endorsements are being made in this off-year.
