- ➤ Dr. Ashish Jha—a familiar face during the COVID-19 pandemic—will step down as dean of Brown’s School of Public Health on Dec. 31 to lead a national initiative to bolster defenses against biological threats. Dr. Francesca L. Beaudoin will serve as interim dean following his departure. WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ General Treasurer James Diossa on Thursday, Dec. 4 introduced RI AnchorHome — a new program that partners with three banks to offer fixed-rate mortgages and support with down payments and closing costs for homebuyers. WJAR
- ➤ Rhode Island is shifting responsibility for its annual homeless count as the state's Executive Office of Housing replaces the Rhode Island Coalition to End Homelessness amid data accuracy concerns. Housing Secretary Deborah Goddard said the new process will guide the Point in Time Count for 2026 as temperatures drop. WJAR

- ➤ Prime Healthcare Foundation has bowed out of purchasing Roger Williams and Fatima hospitals, leaving their future to the Centurion Foundation. The Georgia-based nonprofit is seeking bond financing or a bridge loan to finalize a deal in December or January — with a follow-up hearing scheduled for today in Texas. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Roger Williams Park Zoo euthanized Fernando, a giant otter that suffered from arthritis and pododermatitis despite receiving stem cell therapy to extend his comfort for nearly a year. Zoo staff are now monitoring his brother Romo as he adjusts to the loss. The Providence Journal
