About this event

Join Michael Bradlee of Earth Appliance Organics and RI Sustainable Adventures for the first workshop in our Garden Growth series. Michael will be sharing his expertise, knowledge, and wisdom in preparing your garden over the winter for a strong spring season!

You'll also get to learn more about compost operations, and how a compost facility in the middle of a city can maximize waste reduction through food scrap collection.

We could talk all day about this topic! However, our focus will be on basic goals for setting your garden up for success over the winter. Please bring plenty of questions!

As this is a CoffeeWalk, we start at Knead Doughnuts on Smith Street for some cawfee and doughnuts, then walk downhill about a half mile to Frey Florist and Earth Appliance Organics on Radcliffe Street. From there, we will tour the compost operations, the drop-off site, and their greenhouse. We'll also cover how to compost with little to no money or resources, and even learn about starting plants early for the spring season!

A little more about our trusted expert, Michael Bradlee:

As a chemical engineer, Bradlee designed a composting system that accepts not only raw vegetables but also proteins, fats and bones. The system reaches a temperature that allows these organic materials to break down into compostable material for plants. This system works in smaller settings which is helpful for designing sustainable, circular food systems for urban environments. Bradlee's experience as a carpenter has also helped him scale and implement these systems in communities like Somerville, Massachusetts, and other areas right here in Providence.

This CoffeeWalk is limited to 10 participants, so reserve your spot early. The event will be available first on Meetup, then posted on Facebook and Eventbrite the following day. Looking forward to seeing you there!
