About this event

Community Repair & Swap Day is a free event where residents can learn practical repair skills, connect with neighbors, and take part in a Holiday Decor Swap.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Keith Middle School Community Room, 225 Hathaway Blvd., New Bedford. No registration is required.

Attendees can participate in a variety of hands-on repair workshops, including:

– Furniture Repair & Refinishing

– Furniture Upholstering (bring a cushion or chair with a small cushion if you’d like to practice)

– Clothing Mending (bring clothing, accessories, or a stuffed animal with a tear)

– Knife Care & Sharpening (bring up to five items)

The event will also feature a Holiday Decor Swap. Residents can browse available decorations from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with donations accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Accepted items include clean, dry, gently used decorations from any holiday or season, such as wreaths, ornaments, lights, centerpieces, seasonal tableware and linens, costumes, and small holiday trees up to three feet tall. Large items, inflatables, and broken, dirty, or moldy items cannot be accepted.

Everything in the swap is free, and participants do not need to bring something in order to take something home.

Community Repair & Swap Day is organized by the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District and Mali Lim. The event is supported in part by the Art is Everywhere! grant funded by the City of New Bedford through its Arts, Culture & Tourism Fund and facilitated by New Bedford Creative at the New Bedford Economic Development Council.
